You can do code sprints without being in the same place as well. Sure
IRC / conference calls are slower but since you avoid the travel time
and expense, it might be a viable solution.

I would be up for a weekend code sprint; and would be happy to organize. Given my timezone we could try for a "uDig round the world" code sprint and go around the clock :-)
I imagine with the xmas season many people have devoted their weekends to friends and family - what would a suitable date be?
