Re: [adoptium-pmc] IMPT: 2021.07.20 Draft Release Plan

Correct.

And oops.

Hi Wayne,

Do you mean you don't need the 2021.07.20 tracking issue that I manually created?

Cheers,
Martijn

We don't need the 2021.07.07 review tracking issue, so I'll just delete it.

I'll try to wrap up the EMO requirements for this release today and get out of your way.

Hi Wayne,

Thanks, that helps tremendously.  I've submitted the IP log for 2021.07.07 (IT created CQ 23613)

Once that's wrapped up we continue with the 2021.07.20 one.  What's the best way to proceed with that BTW?  Should I delete the manual issue I raised in order to try and raise it through the Project page again or can we tie them up behind the scenes?

Cheers,
Martijn

The Eclipse Foundation Development Process requires only one review per year. Following that successful review, an Eclipse Project can push out as many release as they need to for a full year.

Since it appears that we've already done most of the heavy lifting for the 2021.07.07 release, I recommend that we just power through getting that one all sealed up and call victory. Whether or not you actually do the release (and the timing thereof) is irrelevant. I can explain why this is fine in gory detail if anybody cares. With that review complete, you'll be set to push out the 2021.07.20 release (and any other release between now and July 2022).

Note that the IP Policy needs to be followed at all times, and that any content included in future releases needs to be fully vetted by the IP Due Diligence Process.

To wrap up the ongoing review, I need somebody from the project team to submit the IP Log. There's a link on the right side of the project's PMI page (you'll have to log on). I've already done most of the checks that we do for IP Log validation, so this part should move pretty quickly.

Hi Wayne,

It's confusing I know :-(!  They are different releases :-).

2021.07.07 is us releasing the Java 8 April PSU for a limited set of platforms to iron out all of the adoptopenjdk --> adoptium issues and to pass the TCK. I think the review for 2021.07.07 will get done 'in time' so to speak, but there's less of a hard requirement for us to release on that date (which has already passed).

2021.07.20 is the fully fledged July quarterly PSU release (Java 8, 11, 16) for a larger set of platforms.  That one has a more hard deadline as the whole industry will be releasing on the 20th/21st/22nd

Martijn

Is the 2021.07.07 release different from the 2021.07.20 release?

AFAICT, that review has been underway for a while now and all we're waiting on is an IP Log.

Should we just change the name of that release and corresponding review?

There's more information regarding the release and review process in the handbook.

Hi EMO,

I was unable to request a review for the 2021.07.20 eclipse.temurin release plan because the tool stated we needed more time (which we don't have as the OpenjDK July PSU release will be July the 20th).

I've manually tried to add the review here instead - https://gitlab.eclipse.org/eclipsefdn/emo-team/emo/-/issues/79

Any guidance is much appreciated!

Martijn

Hi all,

Looking for an EF member to chime in.  I can't submit the release plan for review as it's too close to the release date.  Guidance welcome!

Hi all,

Any other reviews / thoughts on this?  I’ll have to submit it on Monday for review for us to have any chance of making it for the 20th.
