Re: [technology-pmc] PMC Approval required for Committer Election for Alin Dreghiciu on Eclipse Sisu

I think this is rather a special situation.

In any case I wanted to mention that being a committer is not strictly required to contribute to a project, it only gives you ability to press the merge button but as I assume you review the PRs anyways its maybe not a big deal *who* presses the button.

So if Alan wants to engage again, he just can open PRs, Issues, whatever and getting things done with a little side-car help of you both and you can simply restart the vote after a few PRs are merged what is usually easier to show merit than a letter of intend.

Just as an idea from my side :-)

Hi Gunnar,

Since the project was donated to Eclipse, I think there are none of
such contributions -- as you already pointed out.

Given he is mentioned as "historical committer" on the project's
"Who's involved" page, and his expressed intent to engage himself, I
assumed this is an okay thing to do.

Otherwise, I need to apologize, as then it was obviously my mistake to
raise this vote at all, and sorry for that.

Thanks
Tamas

Hi Tamas,

We (the Technology PMC) take the Eclipse open source rules of engagement very seriously. As such, Alan needs to demonstrate merit. You can't become a committer just because of employment history.

Are there any public contributions to Sisu by Alan you can cite/link to (eg., PRs, Bugzillas, commits)? That would get things moving quickly.

Hi Gunnar,

As you may be aware, we all (Stuart, Alin, me) worked together at
Sonatype, where all the work on Sisu and Aether started, around the
second half of 2000s.

Irony is that while I personally ended up maintaining all these today
(Eclipse Sisu, Maven Resolver), I was not involved with these projects
in their early stages. Hence, I personally am unaware of the "early
days history" of these projects. Maybe Stuart could chime in?

My intent here was just to make a project from +2 to +3 active
maintainers, given I know Alin personally for a long time (we chat
often online), and I know he is available and willing.

Alin GH profile is https://github.com/adreghiciu

In the meantime, I found the legacy Sonatype Sisu repository
(archived) https://github.com/sonatype/sisu/graphs/contributors

Asked Alin for statement of willingness in Sisu issue:
https://github.com/eclipse-sisu/sisu-project/issues/246

Thanks

Tamas,

The nomination states:

He notified me he is willing to "reactivate" himself on Eclipse Sisu.

I think this is fine in general.

However, I am having trouble to identify relevant commits/contributions the nominee has done to Eclipse Sisu.

If he contributed in the past I would expect his name to show up here:
https://github.com/eclipse-sisu/sisu-project/graphs/contributors

Can you provide the PMC a link to his statement that he is willing to be a committer again and a list of contributions?
In the future, please ensure those links appear on the nomination record. Appreciate it.

Thanks!

-Gunnar
