While this may be true, requiring that somebody have a specific commercial
product in order to use an open source project is a bit of a violation of the
spirit of open source, isn't it?

I think it's acceptable to provide optimized DDL for specific databases (though
we might require a "works-with" dependency exception), but the project should
ideally work with any database. Unless there are specific features of Oracle
that you depend on.

FWIW, EclipseLink/Dali can generate DDL for every database I've ever seen...
