More importantly, I have felt for some time that at least one of the
project members
should be using the command-line form of our tools as much as possible,
both to root
out possible bugs and to hopefully come up with improvements. Since Jim
and Mark both
use Eclipse extensively, and both have high-speed internet access at home
(I don't), that
task has fallen to me.

Dave,
We all agree that it's important to keep command-line tools working.
Another point to consider:
As you know, there's clear momentum towards implementing the command-line
Stellation
toolset using a stripped-down, "headless" Eclipse core. This will allow
the command-line
tools to take advantage of a number of Eclipse framework capabilities (e.g.
the cross-platform
resource management / change notification model and component-level
extension mechanism).
This approach will also make it much easier to keep various forms of the
toolset integrated and
compatible, and reduce the testing burden (not to mention the additional
work needed to maintain
a second set of the common Stellation infrastructure components).
The AspectJ compiler takes this approach, and it's apparently worked out
fine for them.
I believe "headless" Eclipse-based tools can be reasonably small - nothing
like the 60M figure
you cited; that's for the full-tilt SDK / GUI environment with support for
Eclipse Plug-in development.
It seems likely that command-line-oriented Stellation users would be very
well served if
someone took charge of creating the headless, Eclipse-based command-line
client.
It would be great if you could drive that work.
Regards,
Jim
