I do prefer to limit the use of mouse as much as possible, and have found
KDE
xemacs (for editing source)
vim (for editing/viewing other files)
often suits my needs.
More importantly, I have felt for some time that at least one of the project members
should be using the command-line form of our tools as much as possible, both to root
out possible bugs and to hopefully come up with improvements. Since Jim and Mark both
use Eclipse extensively, and both have high-speed internet access at home (I don't), that
task has fallen to me.
Based on my experience with Jikes, I learned not to assume that the user/developer community
always has high-speed internet access. Even though the majority of our users will be using
Eclipse, I think it helpful to at least offer versions of the system not requiring Eclipse,
so that potential users can try it out without having to download almost 60MB for Eclipse,
and then learning how to use Eclipse before they can try out our stuff. That is in part why
I think it useful to offer nightly builds (by the way, it was never my intent to offer nightly
builds only for the core -- I just thought it prudent to get that part working before extending
to cover all forms of our system).
