I have read all the emails. The election has done a fine outreach
effort and the "desires" of the community have been divined. It is
fine to say that if there is not a clear winner, then the supredecides.
The PC says "Indigo". Take it away Supreme Eclipse......
It is such a quaint desire to believe that elections accurately
reflect the truth in a populace ;)

The first step is the trademark review, which I've already requested.
I'm personally fine with either name, so it won't be about that. Indigo
seems to have received a strong plurality of votes, so that's the
default choice unless forced in another direction.

Subject: RE: [eclipse.org-planning-council] Time for a
run-off vote
I think this is defensible, as long
as you mean you will work with the communities voted rank ordering, as
you evaluate the trademark, marketing and other issues. I'd hate to
make
it sound like you and Ian "look at both of them ..." and just
pick your favorite from those left standing :)
I think this is defensible since is
what we should do anyway (have I forgotten what we've done in the
past?)
... just provide a rank order that then gets evaluated, in order. If we
narrowed it down to one "winner" and it had to be rejected for
"trademark, marketing, or other reasons" we'd have to go to second
place anyway, (and then to third, fourth ...).
So, that's the plan. If I recall it
takes a week or two for this evaluation? I'll update bugzilla and
polling
page with this info later today.
Let us know what you find.
Thanks,
Note to self ... next year, just one
vote, one rank ordering.
I have a slightly
different
suggestion.
How about the EMO takes
over
from here? We are going to have to review these names for trademark,
marketing
and other issues. It is not as simple as just running a popularity
contest
J
So I suggest that the
EMO
takes a look at both of those names and decides.
Thoughts?

Thanks for the applause :) but don't think we can use our own fatigue
to
call off a run off ... my concern is that we said we would have one, if
there wasn't a clear majority, and I'd fear some may have based their
voting
behavior on that.
On the other hand, if you are saying, that you think the Planning
Council
should choose Indigo over Ion even if Ion won in a run-off vote ...
well,
then that'd be a different matter. And the PC could vote here on this
mailing
list if that was your motion.
Thanks,

I'm kinda with Doug on this one - I don't think we need a run-off. David
has expended a whole heap of effort in doing the right thing for this
yearly chore (applause for him) and we may as well call a halt.
We could do a PR system next year for Eclipse JimJams :)
