Re: [paho-dev] Status of paho.mqtt.python
|
Hi James,
thanks for that PR. Having a CI that don't fail is indeed a
priority to helps testing other PRs. Appart from a minor comment
about not trying to support old unsupported Python, the PR looks
fine to me.

Hi
again Pierre,
I didn't set out with the intention of raising 3 PRs today I
promise you, so I apologise for the large number of
notifications! But I soon realised the CI jobs have been
failing (mypy and two test jobs) for quite some time. The good
news is I've fixed the pipelines, and merged all 3 fixes into a
single PR.
This gives us an objective base line, by which we can judge all
the other issues and PRs against, without requiring more time
from yourself to make a judgement call about every detail, for
which we simply have no data. I hope this will get things
moving again, so I'd appreciate it if you could prioritise
this:

Let me know if you want me to squash the commits or make further
changes. All feedback is welcome.
Best wishes,
James.

Hi
Pierre,
Great to hear from you. The work you did a year or two ago
on version 2 was really good. Thanks! The project's not
dead at all - I think the code's in a good state.
It's good to see those bugs
and issues closed just now. I'll see how I can
help with the issues back log, and the PRs moving forward.
I'd love to hear your thoughts if you have any ideas, about
what sort of review comments on PRs help you as a
maintainer? So many PRs seem to require a high level design
decision to be made, that I don't presume to offer an
opinion.
Best wishes,
James

Hello,
I'm still the only maintainer of the Python client, and
while I haven't abandoned it, I indeed don't have enough
time to do all maintenance needed by the project. Help
is welcome, and having more that one committer would be
valuable for the project.
If you are interested in becoming a commiter, a good
start is helping with bugs and reviewing PRs. Do that
for a bit and I can propose you as commiter. I'll try to
be more responsive during the next weeks.

Pierre

I wouldn't mind either jumping to a more active role
on maintaining it.
I think it's very important to keep it up to date,
since python is one of the most widely used languages.
Let's see if someone from eclipse actually shows up.

For what it's
worth, I'm more than happy to pitch in on the
maintenance side. I'm even happy to close my own
PR if there's a conflict of interest.

Hello everyone.
What's the current status of the Paho project,
specifically the python client?
There are a bunch of PR's pending for review
no one of the eclipse team gives signs of
life.
From the commit history I can see the one
taking care of this client was Pierre, is he
still affiliated or active in other parts of
eclipse?
Thanks;
Pau
