Re: [microprofile-wg] committers from the new working group memebers

That's not how it works.

All participant members of the working group that do not already have committer representation on a specification project may appoint one. Note that this applies to the specification project, not individual specifications. Following their appointment, participant representatives become indistinguishable from other committers on a specification project. As such, following appointment, participant representative committers are subject to the same rules as any other committer: they do not hold any special status or formal role beyond that of committer once appointed, and they retain their committer status if they change employers or if their organization leaves the working group.

There's more in the handbook.

Correct Emily.

An MPWG member may choose to skip assigning its 1 (interchangeable) committer to MP and earn commit.
An MPWG member may choose to assign its 1 committer seat the moment it joins.
If the member were to leave the MPWG, the 1 assigned committer is taken away.
If the member were to leave the MPWG, the seats earned by merit stays and the contributor's work on MP is protected.

It is written in the MPWG Charter and stated in the onboarding Members wiki (incomplete- WIP)
Ed (Oracle) asked about it not too long ago directly in the MP community forum. Yet, I think we got sidetracked with MPWG 2021 project planning and never closed that discussion.

Thanks for bringing this topic up for tomorrow's discussion. Your actions are great, Emily!💛

PS: I have added Sharon.  I recommend keeping track of such Members' assignments directly via the excel inventory sheet (new column D " Assigned Committer")  that currently lists the MPWG steering committee by company.

Thanks Paul for your further explanation! In this case, each new corporate member should automatically gain a committer seat. I'll add an agenda item in the MP live hangout to discuss this further.

Thanks

Hi Emily,

The language in the EFSP could be clearer, the participant representative to the specification project is a committer. Net is each member assigns a committer to the project,

Thanks ... Paul

Thanks Paul! It is clear now. I thought each member would be given one committer seat. After reading what you referred, it seems it's a representative rather than a committer.

Thanks
Emily

Hi Emily,

I think Kevin is referring to this provision in the EFSP ... (see the Committers section)

"Member Participants have the right to appoint a Participant Representative to every Specification Project that falls under the purview of the Specification Committee."

Thanks ... Paul

Hi Paul,

Talking with Kevin the other day, we thought there would be one committer granted for each new WG member in the joining package. Is this correct? If yes, we should grant some committer seats to our new members?
