Re: [jakarta.ee-spec.committee] TCK process draft vote

Is it just me, or is this whole process for certification and logo usage becoming too complicated?

We want as many compatible implementations as we can.  And, we want to advertise that we have all of these compatible implementations.  Java EE was too hard to get "compatible".  We should make it easy to be listed as a compatible implementation, especially at the individual feature level (ie. Servlet, or Connectors, or Security).  I would even go so far to say it should be easy to be listed as compatible implementation for the platform.

Where we may want to be more selective is with the use of the Brand and Logo.  Go ahead and make them jump through the hoops of becoming a Working Group member and sign off on the TCK results.  This could be a selective page with the companies logos indicating success -- ala https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javaee/overview/compatibility-jsp-136984.html.

I realize that this approach may be controversial.  But, given where we are with Jakarta, I think we need be more open and welcoming with the "compatible implementations".  We need some positive publicity.

What I recall from our discussion on the topic is that we would allow the individual specification pages to have a list of compatible implementations that had completed a certification request.

The platform specs that have logos and branding associated with them would require an additional trademark license agreement. I don’t think we explicitly called out the what would be on the platform specification page in terms of compatible implementations. I think some assumed that the implementations that had completed a certification request would have a listing on the spec page, and those that had also completed a trademark agreement would be listed on another jakarta.ee branding page.

The issue to the steering committee is whether or not to allow compatible implementations on the platform specification pages.
