Re: [ee4j-community] FW: [eclipse.org-membership-at-large] Creation of the Jakarta EEWorking Group

I guess it's not entirely clear, what the responsibilities f the Jakarta EE WG as opposed to the EE4J PMC is, but with the current setup even the EE4J PMC Chair Ivar unless he or his company decided to become an Eclipse Solutions Member would only be allowed to join the Jakarta EE WG as a non-voting Guest for one year ;-|

It might be a big deal, but honestly I think it is time to change this.

When the EF was founded it was a club of enterprises. As of today, there
are many individuals and JUGs providing valueable input to many projects.
It simply is fair to let these people have a say in all decisions, too. I
do not like the idea that votes are related to Dollars. Votes must be
realted to merits.

Creation of the Jakarta EEWorking Group

The short answer is I don?t know. I would have to ask for a legal
interpretation. At the moment I am concerned that we could not do this
without changing our Bylaws and Membership Agreement, which would be a
Really Big Deal.

Mike/all,

Thanks for the update. Glad the Guest membership allows e.g. JUGs to
participate, although they have no say unlike the Partner Members in the
JCP at least in the Executive Committee.

Since they are called Associate Members they have approximately the same
rights (vote for the Board etc. I assume, but not as formal members of a
JSR EG in the JCP either. Other organizations like the OGC (also a
Solutions member of Eclipse Foundation) have their own Associate membership
category: http://www.opengeospatial.org/ogc/join/levels#Associate

And it sounds not so different regarding criteria for joining, but unlike
Jakarta EE WG or other Eclipse Working Groups the OGC does grant Associate
Members voting rights in its Technical Working Groups and standardization
efforts.

EEWorking Group

All,

I am pleased to announce that the review period for the Jakarta EE Working
Group (formerly the EE.next Working Group) and its charter
<https://www.eclipse.org/org/workinggroups/jakarta_ee_charter.php> has
successfully completed. This working group is now officially created. Any
future revisions to the charter can be approved by the Steering Committee
and the Executive Director.

Please subscribe to jakarta.ee-wg@xxxxxxxxxxx if you wish to follow along.
For Solutions Members and above of the Eclipse Foundation who would like to
formally join the working group, all that is required is an email to that
list stating that you want to join, and at what level.

Best regards,
