Here is a draft proposal for the Planning Council.  Any feedback is welcome, content, tone, grammer – anything.  We can discuss at the Wednesday meeting.

 

The Eclipse User Interface Best Practices Working Group wishes to make a proposal to the Eclipse Planning Council to encourage the participation of the project groups in the activities of the working group.  We believe this will improve the user experience in and across the projects making up the Europa release.

 

We request that the Planning Council:

 

• Help promote the existence of the UI Best Practices Working Group among the Eclipse projects and how members can engage the group. Eclipse projects can engage the group in a variety of ways.
• Join the working group - http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/User_Interface_Best_Practices_Working_Group#Membership
• Send emails to ui-best-practices-working-group@xxxxxxxxxxx with questions about user interface issues.
• We can even set up a WebEx at one of our bi-weekly meetings if the projects wish to do an in depth show and tell and get feedback and advice from the group.
• Assist with updating the User Interface Guidelines.

 

 

• Encourage the projects to make usability and UI design an integral part of their development process. A set of suggested practices can be found below. This is not the only way to achieve usability, merely a set of practices that a number of the teams participating in the UI Best Practices Working Group have found to be effective:
