Re: [stellation-res] Wiki Updates
|
Hi Rafal,
You've got several very good points, and I hope to make time to start
overhauling parts of the website, probably sometime in June. I'm sorry the
current site content isn't up to date and easier to navigate.
Regarding current web content: anything that's not directly related to WVCM
is basically on shelved as far as current activities are concerned (TClient
bugfixes will be done as needed; I appreciate the Bugzilla entries you made,
btw). Mark has mentioned that some of the older WVCM pages (December 2003
or earlier) need to be updated/corrected in places. I'm writing new pages
as I dive full-speed into the WVCM implementation, but it's a juggling act
as you know.
Comparisons of WVCM, CVS and other SCM approaches and more detailed
exposition of WVCM would be very useful, and I'd personally enjoy working on
it (there: I've blown my geek credentials!). Time is the issue, of course,
and for the next few weeks at least I'm working full time on WVCM code. If
you'd like to try your hand at constructing a WVCM-CVS comparison, Mark
and/or I can probably find time to offer comments on it.
Best regards,
Jim

Finally, I've posted a number of pages on the WVCM web about accessing
resources and terminology.
Yesterday I spend some time browsing the Wiki. It has lots of interesting
stuff reflecting the project's progress for the past two years.
Unfortunately it was rather hard for me to grasp at the chronology and
tell wether a piece of intformation is up to date or not. I am aware that
certain pieces of the documentation/design/code were dropped or are
planned to be dropped/replaced in the future, but I'm not sure which ones.
I think it would be really beneficial to future readers if someone of the
team went over the pages and notices on top of the pages that describe
abandoned/replaced ideas. I know it takes precious time, you would
probably rather spend writing code - I would if it was me :-) Still, I
think it's necessary in the long run.
I really appreciate the page on WVCM terminology. It's really not obvious
at the first sight. I think it would be great to create a page that
describes how WVCM/Stellation terminology maps to CVS terminology, as most
people will be migrating from this direction. Another option is making a
table with side-by-side comparison of multiple SCM systems terminologies.
R.
