Re: [paho-dev] MQTT-S rename to MQTT-SN

Hi Julien,

thanks for your comments. You are absolutely correct in your statements about MQTT-S and we have discussed other names with "efficient" or "lightweight" in the name.

Personally I don't mind any of these options, but prefer quick decisions as my main motivation is getting the T&Cs on the spec sorted out, and that involves lawyers!

MQTT-S is (IMO) a lighter MQTT implementation and not something only limited to "sensors".

If the target is lossy low power networks and clients with lower CPU/memory ressources then something like MQTT-light would be a nice fit.

My 2 cents :)

As part of the job of applying the same or similar license terms to the MQTT-S specification as those on the MQTT specification, we are proposing a small name change. The new name would be MQTT-SN, standing for exactly the same long name, MQTT for Sensor Networks. Some people had assumed that the S in MQTT-S stood for secure, so we hope this change will avoid that confusion.

Please feel free to comment or ask questions.
