Dear Oniro Working Group members,
I am writing to inquire about the current status and roadmap for Widevine DRM support within the Oniro project.
Any exploration on the legal and technical requirements for a Widevine licensing agreement with Google. This capability is critical for projects aiming to build media-centric applications on Oniro that require playback of protected premium content (e.g., from streaming services).
To help with our project planning, I would like to ask:
Is there currently a formal Working Group proposal or ongoing effort to pursue a Widevine licensing agreement?
If so, what is the current stage of this effort (e.g., exploratory, legal review, active negotiation)?
Are there any publicly available documents, roadmaps, or meeting minutes that outline the technical scope (e.g., target security levels L1/L3) and the implementation plan for integrating Widevine into the OS multimedia stack?
For companies interested in contributing to or leveraging this work, what are the next steps or points of contact?
I understand that licensing negotiations can be complex and confidential. However, any high-level guidance on the project's direction regarding DRM would be greatly appreciated by the developer community.
Thank you for your time and for the great work on the project.
Best regards,
