Re: [jakarta.ee-spec] Verifying that there is a zero cost wayforcommitters to participate in specification projects

Recommending directly via the Jakarta EE repo improvements to the website tab: ABOUT to add the inventory listing the Committers on Jakarta EE, blantly populated by the Repo itself plugin:

For those of you who might not want to double click to get to About tab, lets highlight the very core of Jakarta EE:

No matter how much we might choose to write such words above of what kind of future we dream to be a part of, we must be vigilant to avoid future frustrations that can be prevented today.

The above page itself ought to also state the fact the Contributions at EF projects are required to pay $0 USD budget. NOT TO BE CONFUSED with Jakarta EE strategic membership and the other options.

Werner you are correct, time invested is as valuable as money.  Specially more in OSS when/if not paid by someone to work on a project. The sacrifice involved, the extra time for many to help, when time is the most valuable resource for anyone,  are and will continue to be the greatest payment any OSS project, under any Foundation.
I believe that Jakarta EE must protect and be well aware of it when collaborating with each other. Entitlement of assuming others' people time is just the cheapest block that we must cut each time we see it. Thanks #usualsuspects for allowing me to highlight how very right YOU are. You are awesome, you know it-- Thank you!

You don’t have to pay for being an individual contributor anyway.

Different for corporate Eclipse members, but that is the same Pretty much everywhere across Eclipse.

+1 it’s important that contributors/future committers know that they don’t need to pay for being able to contribute

funny typo: is there any recording of someone singing the contribution agreement ? 😊

Like Werner and Amelia says the only thing necessary to participate in any project under the eclipse foundation umbrella is just singing the agreement  and dedicate time to the project like in my case I started  as a contributor after committer with micro profile 2 years ago

Cheers

Well you Always pay somehow, if not with MONEY, then (especially in case of Independent Contributors and Committers like myself) by dedicating your TIME ;-)

I am following up with them to understand why they came to that conclusion.

Formidable thread Scott and follow up Kevin.

You are correct, becoming a Contributor for any project under EF requires the signature of the agreement and thats it. That person can be unemployed and still be welcomed as an independent contributor to add value to any EF project under the 350 active.

As a Committer, you THAT Doer will also be welcomed to rock it as zero costs, yet attainting the MERIT to be a Committer is by each independent Community to vote that person in.

If anyone has told any Contributor in the Jakarta EE ecosystem that they must pay to play, we must find that misinformed and set the record straight.

This topic ought to and must be added to tomorrow's Jakarta EE Platform Call December 10th, 8am PDT call.

Jakarta EE 9 release depends on contributors to show up and rock via Git their voices.
