Re: [ide-dev] IDE Project

I don't like much Commons. To me, it often means poorly organized... I like IDE Toolkit better (ide-tk / idetk) and because it relates with Language Toolkit (ltk). But it is just a matter of name, I don't really care.

Anyway, if such a project has to be created, some discussions have to occur with dltk (http://www.eclipse.org/dltk/) and Xtext (http://www.eclipse.org/Xtext/) projects. AFAIK, they already extracted a number of things from the JDT into their own frameworks (which are not targeted to a specific language). What do you think?

Wow, I’m overwhelmed by all your interest. It’s clearly the right thing to do.

Now, do we want to call it the IDE project or is that presumptuous? Would something like IDE Commons be better? I like the Commons name because that gives it a locality, a place where we all meet which is a good chunk of what this project would be.

Doug.

Yes, that is what I’m talking about. We should draft up the papers and start the project creation process. Anyone else interested?

So if we have a home for “Goodies”, I would look to put the CDT things there as well. And then there’s the things we need to share, like a good multi-language framework. Or an editor with easily configurable highlighting for new languages. EPP is just the wrong end of the stack for these things IMHO.

That does sound like an IDE project under Tools. I’m in!
