Maybe follow-ups don't get mail and I don't thnink I was subscribd at the time. Also, the mailing lists are
probably a better way to get in touch with developers. Personally I loathe web forums and I haven't installed a news reader (any recommendations for OS X?)

Do you have core.autocrlf set to true? That might explain. Although there is some support for end-of-line
conversion, there are a couple of bugs that prevents it from working. See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=301775 and related bugs.
