Do you have the Derby Network server running when you get the error?  If you do, 
because of the way it is currently setup, I would expect a logged error that 
indicates the driver is not found but after that it should continue.

What happens if you do a "ss" at the osgi prompt after the error?  Are all the 
bundles started?  (pay particular attention to the org.eclipse.persistence.jpa, 
org.eclipse.persistence.example.jpa.comics.setup)

If those are not started, try starting them (start <bundleNumber>).  Do you get 
an exception?  What is it?
