Re: [eclipse.org-eclipsecon-program-committee] EclipseCon 2010 Part 2 - Conference Structure
|
Donald, et al,
The goal is to return the BOFs back to the way they were at the first
and second EclipseCons: organized on the spot by the people who are
standing there and are interested in talking about something. The goal
is to remove the marketing-speak/mini-talks taht the pre-scheduled BOFs
have become in the last few years. (Last year, we even had a BOF
organizer ask for his free pass and additional AV because he was giving
a talk at EclipseCon - clearly the concept of BOF had moved a long way
from the original idea.)
Anyway, "organized on the spot" BOF sessions look like, wait for it,
yes, an Unconference! Hence the reason for calling it an Unconference as
a way to highlight that we're moving back to the original goal of
"interested people gathering together to talk about something" BOFs.
Oh, and the Mashup Camps and Cloud Camps ended up being very interesting
Unconferences. Too bad you missed them :-)

I personally have never seen an interesting and engaging Unconference work.
Maybe I'm a fuddy duddy, but I really kinda like the traditional BOF setup.
