the style can be made "persistent" by adding a file with the same name
of your shapefile and .sld extention.
How to create that file?
That is actually quite easy. When you define fill and color and
generally style, in the same dialog you find an import and export
button in the lower part of the panel.
Simply push export and when a file name is asked, browse for the
folder with the shapefile in it and give it teh same name of the layer
with sld extention.
