[udig-dev] LocationTech incubation, dependencies, and OGC

Just a quick status update:
- Sharon is crushing our dependency list, I have around 30 more things to submit and she is catching up
- I am catching a few of the questions around the GeoTools dependency but that is going well. I was only worried about some DB2 code and that is now resolved.
- I have formally requested an exemption for JAI and ImageIO (given that the binary license and research license are not open source, asking for an exemption allows us both of these under the same terms as the Oracle JRE)
- I also asked if LocationTech could join the  OGC, as a lot of the names, schemas and so on we use reference OGC Standards (and ISO TC211) standards. In addition to ensuring we have a line of communication it would allow eclipse legal to check we are respecting IP correctly. Currently TC211 standards are behind a paywall, and this is a workaround.
- Sharon has responded to our questions with respect to initial code contribution, but I have not managed to read up on the details yet

Dependencies

I also updated our spreadsheet, and we are sitting at:

25% pending
1% confused
8% discussion
57% legal
1% withdrawn
9% approved

The big differences:
- We figured out pmc approved, resulting in more dependencies being ready for Sharon to review
- Way more approved items, Thanks to Frank figuring out Orbit, and Sharon quickly processing any Apache dependencies.

How to Help

1) help submit CQs we have around 30 items remaining
2) I have set two timeslots for Friday (one as a work party, and one as a review of our initial codebase with Sharon)

uDig Incubation 1: Thurs 22: Ottawa 5pm Frankfurt: 11pm Friday 23: Sydney 7am

uDig Incubation 2: Friday 23: Ottawa 12 noon Frankfurt: 2pm Sydney: 10pm

The goal here is to answer our questions and get our initial codebase in shape for foss4g. I would like to upgrade to the latest Eclipse, and ensure each developer has a copy running that looks visually different. It will help answer the question - "what is happening to udig and locatointech" if we can show something visual.
