I think you need to put single quotes around the word.

Strange - only thing I could think of is to download the data directory again on the off chance something happened to your copy?

No - it should just be a "geotiff" with the CRS provided by the tiff metadata.

That all looks okay ... we don't expect GDAL stuff to work until I can sort out what jesse did to make a mac release.
