Re: [udig-devel] PostGIS connection problems
|
Nothing happened when I tried Reset. The layers were still there, but
not renderable. It's interesting that table-view shows the data, but
map view does not show the geometry. Good hunting.

This seems to be the same behaviour as I am finding with users
deleting catalog services (e.g. MapGraphic/custom services) - see
the "Protecting Catalog Services". I tried this with a PostGIS
service too - the same thing happens. The missing service is
recreated correctly when you open a project/map containing relevant
layers, but the layers which previously used this service just can't
seem to reference the recreated service correctly. With MapGraphic,
the resource ID of the layer actually gets changed at some point (so
it's always going to be pointing to the wrong place). With PostGIS
layers, the resource ID stays the same, but it still can't reference
the service/resource correctly. I tried looking in the .umap file
for clues, but the catalogRef was huge and full of too many codes
for my brain! The iD was correct though.
I will try and look into this some more on Monday to find the root
of the problem.

Still I am happy to find a user to test this scenario. We have a
related concern with moved shapefiles; a Map really should be able
to kick a catalog entry into life as needed.
Can you give me any details about what happened when you tried
Reset? Did anything happen at all?

Unfortunately, that did not work. For now, I'll have to make sure
the service is running before I launch uDig. OK for development,
not for production.

Can you try right clicking and selecting "reset" on the service
please? The uDig catalog has remembered what layers were
available from the previous run. We will look into making the
catalog a bit smarter for the next round of development.
Please let me know if Reset works for you.

I am experiencing weird behavior with PostGIS layers using RC13
on OSX. I have a project with several layers; if a launch uDig
and the PostGIS server is not running, the layers do not display
(this is expected). However, if I restart the server, they
still do not display. Even when I relaunch uDIG, the same thing
happens. All the layers are dead forever and I need to delete
and re-add them all. This is hardly robust behavior. I
eventually want uDig to be part of an operational open-source
system for my company. Help!
