Re: [udig-devel] uDig installation and startup

Hi,

I am fixing a bug with the installer that causes the issue. A quick fix is to look in your Documents and setting/username/AppData/ folder (I think that the one) and delete the uDig folder (or just rename it).

If that doesn't work let me know because I think that is the problem and I want to know if it is not. However a second thing to try is to change the shortcut in the startmenu to remove the -configuration "% APPDATA%/uDig" parameter.

Hi Jody

Thanks for the mail, yes I am running the prog as administrator (I have admin rights on the laptop).

I used the executable and the programme runs perfectly. Have placed a shortcut on my desktop that should solve my problem.

It would be useful for refraction to have a look at the start menu activation of the software, am not sure if a anyone else has had the same problem.

Many thanks for your help
Wesley

Thanks for contacting us, I am going to guess that you downloaded
- http://udig.refractions.net/downloads/udig-1.1-RC11.exe

Can I ask if you are running as administrator? Can you navigate into the
udig directory and directly double click on the executable please?

I am a little out of touch and am not aware of custom config.ini
(serching email history I can find that a custom config.ini was required
back in Eclipse 3.0 timeframe; the need for this has long since
disappeared).

uDig is a desktop application so speed is not going to be an issue, the
provided walkthrough does make use of some web services but you can
focus on local shapefiles, and install geoserver 1.5.3 as described in
walkthrough 2 for nearly the same experience without the same internet bill.

Dear uDig developers and users,

I downloaded uDig (winXP) from the following website http:// udig.refractions.net/confluence/display/UDIG/Downloads and installed selecting all the default parameters. The installation went forward without a hitch, however, when I try and run the program it does not seem to work. I get the startup screen and all seems well but that just disappears and nothing happens. I then had a look at the "installation questions" and attempted to change my config.ini file as per the recommendations. This has not solved the problem. I am thinking that one of two things could be wrong

1. I have not updated the config.ini file properly (config file attached)
2. Our internet connection is just not fast enough (South Africa)

Please could someone on this list please advise me on how to proceed. I have downloaded uDig as part of the open source online courses run by the Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies and would very much like to complete the course, unfortunately I am not even able to run the software.

Kind regards and looking forward to your inputs

Wesley

P.S. My system is a Dell Laptop Latitude D600 with a 1600MHz processor with 512 MB of RAM running WinXP prof version 2002 Service Pack 2
