Re: [tools-pmc] Eclipse Target Communication Framework 2026.05 Progress Review

Thank you for starting this review. This project is very mature and I look forward to working with the project's team (current and hopefully new ones) to keep it relevant.

There are a number of concerns about the current state of the project, primarily focussed on it not working with recent versions of Eclipse IDE. Offers to help modernize have been met with silence so far, but I have re-issued it in this comment. I also am concerned that current work and planning on the changes being made are not happening in an open and transparent manner. A few smaller items relate to updating committer list, there are only two committers, but one has not contributed a change since 2012, is Felix Burton still really a committer?

I hope we can revitalise this project and that interested parties can step forward and progress things.

Dear PMC,
The EMO has initiated a Progress Review for the Eclipse TCF project, as the project has not undergone a formal review since 2021.

While recent public activity in the project repositories has been limited, the project lead confirmed that TCF continues to be actively used within AMD and by downstream partners and customers. According to the project team, TCF is considered mature and stable, with most ongoing development currently focused on proprietary extensions and support for new hardware platforms outside of the open-source codebase.

The proposed review will provide an opportunity to communicate the project’s current status and maintenance model to the Eclipse community, address recent community questions regarding project activity, and evaluate the project’s long-term sustainability within the Eclipse ecosystem.

We kindly request the PMC’s feedback and approval for this progres review.
We're using the following issue to track the status of the review: https://gitlab.eclipse.org/eclipsefdn/emo-team/emo/-/issues/1182

Thanks in advance,
Maria Teresa
