Re: [tools-pmc] Request for release review go-ahead: AspectJ 1.7.0 and AJDT 2.2.0

Hi,

Thanks for the +s. We used to be on the train a few years ago but
'fell off' when there was a reduction in manpower and we couldn't meet
the requirements of staying on. Since then we have more resource but
haven't really pursued getting back on. A key delivery mechanism for
us is SpringSource Tool Suite and we are included in that package by
default already.

Unlike Object Teams we aren't a JDT core patch in the 'feature patch'
sense. AspectJ takes a copy of JDT core, modifies it and jarjar's it
(adding an org.aspectj prefix) - this leaves us with an AspectJ
variant of JDT core that can run alongside the existing unmodified JDT
core.

We are hoping that this year it continues to be that case that the M6
version of 3.8/4.2 is the last one to really 'move things around' -
and once we are working on that level, we are fine. But yes, a quick
service refresh would address any unexpected problems. However, we
aren't in a panic to release right now, partly we are trying to get
the review in now so that we avoid the rush on reviews just ahead of
the main eclipse release.

cheers,
Andy
