Hi,
if you do not need a self compiled sumo (because you are planning to
improve it for instance), please try the ppa and yes do a "make
uninstall" first. Also the cmake build is the preferred way to build
sumo. It uses make as well but you don't do a configure step first but a
cmake call. If you still experience problems please send the log.
