[openvsx] OCX 2026: meet in Brussels, workshops and BoFs for the Open VSX community

Dear OpenVSX community,

Open Community Experience (OCX) 2026 is just around the corner, in less than 1 month from now (April 21 to 23 April).

This year’s programme includes many topics relevant to extension ecosystems, developer platforms, and the broader open source developer experience, including how AI is starting to reshape how extensions and tools are built and used.

Beyond the main sessions, I wanted to highlight a couple of workshops that I’m particularly looking forward to:

  • The workshop Systematic AI Coding for Real World Projects focuses on practical and repeatable approaches to AI assisted development. If you are already experimenting with tools like Copilot, Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, or Theia AI, it should give you useful ways to structure and improve how you use them in real projects, including in the context of extensions and developer tooling.
  • There is also a session on the Cyber Resilience Act, Are you ready for the CRA? Learn how the EU regulation will affect open source. As extension ecosystems are part of larger software supply chains, this session provides a useful and practical perspective on what the CRA means and what to start preparing.

More generally, one of the main reasons to come is simply to meet in person. It consistently brings a different level of discussion and energy compared to online exchanges.

In that respect, the BoF sessions are often where some of the most engaging conversations happen:

  • NextGen Eclipse Tools, AI, Web and Cloud - BoF
    Tuesday 21 April, 19:00
You will meet contributors behind projects such as Theia, Theia AI, Langium, GLSP, EMF.cloud, Sprotty, Sirius, SysOn, Eclipse Che and others
    Registration: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1986010313309
  • Eclipse IDE and Platform in the Age of AI - BoF
    Wednesday 22 April, 19:30
    Registration required, limited seats: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1986005715557

If you were considering joining, now is a good time to register and be part of these discussions. You can still use the discount code OPENVSX20 for an additional 20% off registration.

I hope to see some of you in Brussels,
