Re: [microprofile-wg] [DISCUSS] MicroProfile 7.0 Ballot verbiage straw poll

It’s definitely correct that we don’t agree on the problem.

The reality we see on Azure is that customers do not adopt things like Java SE, Jakarta EE and MicroProfile releases right away. In most cases, it takes years in practicality.

A few months of lag time for MicroProfile adopting Jakarta EE, or a given implementation certifying against any particular thing is not that significant of a concern as long as things are generally deterministic and going in the right direction.

We do have concrete customer evidence that Open Liberty customers are quite happy with status quo with regards to the way things are handled. We also have evidence to suggest that those same customers like a stronger sense of clarity with regards to Jakarta EE and MicroProfile version alignment.

I think this is one of those situations where if we don’t agree on the problem, we can’t agree on solutions.

The problem statement of the document is to allow a Jakarta EE Core Profile release to have MicroProfile certification on or very soon after (days or weeks, but not months) the Jakarta EE release.

Open Liberty did not ship a Jakarta EE Core Profile release for the Jakarta EE 10 vote, so is not an example that applies to the problem statement as written.
