Perhaps Jakarta EE 9 is the time to
introduce a “Legacy Free Profile” (not final name).
The goal of the Legacy Free Profile is to;
- Not include
any apis that have been deprecated
- Not include
backwards compatibility requirements
This will provide a clear profile that can
be used to create lighter runtimes.
Would make it easier for new vendors to
enter the market with a compatible implementation.
Would be a target for users and customers
that don’t care about backwards compatibility but do care
about server footprint.
Would enable customers to discover the
impact of deprecation has on their applications and evolve
them.
This is not
a full proposal but just throwing ot out there for
discussion.
