Hi,

I was responsible for adding Java EE
8 support to the Java EE Tools component of WTP.  As of Oxygen.2,
WTP has support for the following Java EE 8 projects:
- Web 4.0
- Web Fragment 4.0
- EAR / Application 8.0
- App Client 8.0
- JAX-RS 2.1

The following are not supported:
- JPA 2.2 (JPA support is provided by
Oracle in the Dali project in WTP)
- JSF 2.3 (I can't remember who provided
JSF support in the past)

We've tried contacting Oracle regarding
a release outlook for JPA 2.2 support in WTRP and we were told that they
do not have any current plans to add support for JPA 2.2. As they have
always provided support for JPA and most of the committers on the Dali
project are Oracle employees, it will be non-trivial for someone outside
of Oracle to provide support for it before Photon GAs. Someone from the
community will need to step up and work with the Dali committers to provide
the support for JPA 2.2.

There basically always is, but there's not really a plan
published (see same project site). I got the idea a lot of the focus at

Quickly glancing through the commits I don't think even
JSF 2.2 (Java EE 7) support has yet be worked on, and certainly not JSF
2.3.

@Elson, could you perhaps shed some light on the EE 7/EE
8 support plans for WTP?
