Re: [eclipsecon-na-program-committee] draft schedule

The schedule really good to me! Here are a few small suggestions:

Experiences from building one of the world's most distributed RCP apps
. This was highly voted by the PC. We could swap this out of the small room with Hand-picked highlights from Eclipse RAP or even the VJet talk (they are all scheduled at the same time)

At 10:30 On Wednesday we have two UI talks at the same time. There may not be overlap, but we could swap "Are you still manually coding UIs" with "Ecore Tools 2.0"

Possibly swap "making the IDE fun again" with "Don't believe the type". Don't believe the type currently has a long-slot (and Simon mentioned he didn't this). if we thought Making the IDE fun again would spur some discussion, then a longer slot might be nice.

Cheers,
Ian

John,

Thanks for the feedback. I have made the change you suggested. The rooms are a lot bigger this year so I am hoping it won’t be a problem.

Any other feedback? I would really appreciate people taking a look to make sure I didn’t make any obvious errors, like last year scheduling the NASA talk in the smallest room.

If there is no other feedback, we will declare the schedule final and publish it on Wednesday.  Changes then become a bit more complicated since if we need to swap speakers we need to get everyone’s agreement.

Looks good Ian. Just a couple of comments:

On Wednesday at 13:30 you have the scripting talk in Room 8 which is the small room. This talk was surprisingly *very* popular at EclipseCon Europe - every seat was full, many had to stand, and some were turned away. I suggest switching to a bigger room, maybe switch with EMF Compare in the same time slot. I suspect Room 8 is bigger already than what he had in Ludwigsburg, but better to be on the safe side.

There are two talks still listing Ian Bull as author which were invited speakers. Just a reminder that we need the real speakers listed on these (Docker, and the Walmart C++ talk).

John

All,

I have put together a draft EclipseCon schedule. We are planning to do a big promotional push this Wednesday so I am hoping to have it finalized by then.

https://www.eclipsecon.org/na2014/eclipsecon/schedule/session/2014-03-17

Can you please review and let me know if you have any suggested changes. I’ve tried to 1) ensure one timeslot does not have talks from the same track, 2) each timeslot has a 2-3 well known speaker, 3) tracks are spread out over the 3 days and 4) in each time slot try to have a balance of intro, case studies and advanced. I am not perfect/successful on all 4 in each time slot but I hope it is pretty close.

All of the rooms are pretty much the same size. Room 8 is slightly smaller so I did not put any obvious popular talks/speakers in Room 8. However, in general don’t worry about the room assignment.

If you do have changes it is very helpful if you tell me what two sessions you would like to see swapped.

FWIW, I would encourage you to not lobby for a different time slot for your sessions just because you don’t like that particular time slot. J

Finally, there are some UI bugs in the schedule that will be addressed later today. Feel free to send me a private email with any issues you find but I have already sent Chris G a long list of improvements. I hope later today he will have time to fix them up.

Ian
