[eclipsecon-na-program-committee] Modeling/DSL talks

Thanks Cedric and Sven. I encourage all PC members to take a look through these and adjust your votes. If you are not a modeling person, you have to put yourself in the perspective of an EclipseCon attendee. We know from conference survey results that there is significant attendee interest in these modeling technologies. We are lucky to have to two experts from this community to help us pick a strong program for these attendees.  In the end I will just start adding some from this list but I still want everyone's input. One source of information is that many of these speakers and even some talks were given at ECE and there is conference feedback here:

Sven and I had a call to go through the list of modeling/DSL talks to list those we'll really want to see which are not in yet:

http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/collaborative-modeling-applied-avionic-design-give-wings-your-team
An experience report about large scale deployement by a big industrial player. It tackles teamworking on models using Eclipse technologies which is a hot topic in our community. Speakers are good. We really need this one.

http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/emf-community-time-moving-eclipse4-thanks-extended-editing-framework-20
A heads up on the 2.0 version of a project which has a strong adoption. It's moving to pure osgi, JavaFX and opens the perspective of modeling tools on Orion which I think is a great way to move our community forward. Speaker is good and quite funny in general.

http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/emfedit-force-unleashed
It explains an area of EMF which is not well known yet essential (EMF.Edit) on top of a hot technology : JavaFX. It targets both the modeling and the RCP crowd. Perfect for newcomers to the conference.

http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/building-tool-based-emf
It was presented at ECE, it was well attended and had good feedback. Speakers are good too.

http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/xtended-javafx
A combo of two great speakers, something the audience can use right away in their rich app and a nice showcase for xtend. We've seen a lot of interest in Xtend (3 hours tutorial was full) and in JavaFX at ECE, the audience is looking forward to these technologies

http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/giant-butterfly-effects-software-factories
Automation of generation/build/deployement integrating many different technologies. A project wich had pretty much no slots at Eclipse conferences AFAIK. To be honest we are not 100% sure on this one as it looks a bit too much ambitious.

Yes I completely agree. We have those two spare already, but I think we should go even further on modeling. I think the best next step is for you and Cedric to bring forward a list of recommendations for us to look at, perhaps with more context around who the speaker is, how much traction the project has, etc. From a complete non-expert perspective, here are a few that I gave a high rating to. I know very little about the projects or speakers, but they sounded like interesting topics from an outsider perspective, FWIW:

Please keep in mind that we are still short on accepted talks in the modeling/dsl track.
We currently have 12 out of 20 planned ones. We definitely need to have a couple more accepted [1].
Unfortunately Cedric seems to be offline today. I want to look with him through the submissions as soon as he's available.
We can hopefully work out something concrete tomorrow.

That said it's good to see the "griffon" and the "custom modeling env"-talks are in now, but we need to make some additional room for modeling :-(

After eliminating some duplicate talks yesterday, we had 64 "in" talks, leaving room for four more. We discussed several of the proposals and there have been a few with significant changes in their votes. Based on this I have done the following:

Added the following three talks that are now solidly in the "top 68" by vote:

http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/tale-2-platforms-eclipse4-and-griffon
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/your-custom-modeling-environment-definition-made-easy-last
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/experiences-porting-suite-massive-swing-apps-eclipse-4

Removed the following talk which has now dropped to nearly 90th place:

http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/visualizing-community-eclipse-social-code-graph-revealed

Those were the only big moves that I could see. There were a few minor changes around the 68 talk margin but I didn't adjust "in" tags on these for now. We have two spots left that I would really like to see allocated to Modeling. We still have room for changes in all categories, so if you would like to present arguments for or against any particular talk, please speak up on this mailing list or in Thursday's call. Often different PC members will have insights into a particular talk, subject area, or speaker that will help the rest of us make better decisions on our votes, so please don't hesitate to speak up. This is *your* program!

FYI I have updated my "scorecard" spreadsheet with the latest info. This doesn't need to control what changes we make, but the data help to give a high level picture of the program from various angles.
