RE: [eclipse-dev] A Call for Caution

A wise idea. I worry when too many changes occur in too short a time or without valid reason. I have seen it happen before with the Blue-J interface. the sixth version tried to address issues that *might* happen under Vista. They don't happen, but now Blue-J is no longer backwards compatible with the other versions.

Subject: [eclipse-dev] A Call for Caution
Date: Tue, 5 Dec 2006 22:33:39 -0500

I would like to propose a discussion topic for tomorrow's architecture
call:

The SWT team has requested the removal of the SWT launcher for 3.3 M4:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=166865

Questions I would like to propose for the discussion:

1. Is the new alternative clearly superior to the SWT launcher?

2. Are we addressing a problem that does not exist?

3. Should we ask for input/feedback from the community before the removal
of the SWT launcher as to avoid another riot?
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=100792

Thanks,
Wassim.
