[eclipse-dev] New Key Configuration
|
One of the plan items for the Platform UI team is to improve the keyboard
bindings in Eclipse ("https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=37934
"). As part of this, we have been asked to provide a good set of initial
key bindings. We have noticed that current set of key bindings is
crowded, and that some of the key bindings cause problems on different
platforms and locales.
To truly support a common set of key bindings across the platform, we
believe teams should try adhere to the following guidelines:
+ Use of multiple-stroke key bindings (similar to Visual Studio and Emacs)
to define groups of similar keys
+ Avoiding keys that cause problems with international keyboards or window
managers. Examples of keys that cause problems are: escape, numbers,
punctuation, function keys, Ctrl+Shift+[0-9A-F], tab, Ctrl+Alt+*, Alt+*
+ Encouraging the use of Ctrl+[A-Z] and Ctrl+Shift+[G-Z] as key bindings
We have provided a new set of key bindings in today's integration build
(I20031202). You can try these new key bindings out by selecting
"Standard 3.0 - NEW!" as your key configuration. We would appreciate
people trying out these new key bindings for a while. This new set of key
bindings is by no means set in stone, and we appreciate any feedback we
get.
Thanks,
Doug.
P.S. An alternative Emacs key configuration will be available for next
week's integration build.
