Kit,

    Add

&protocol=http&r=1 to the URL.  That will force http-only
mirrors and redirect to the closest mirror geographically instead of
    asking to pick a mirror.

      I'm not really familiar with
the Eclipse download infrastructure, but I can see a few
problems with these links. In order to install a URL as an
Orion plugin, it has to be:
        -- a web page (FTP won't work,
and some of these mirrors appear to be FTP locations. In fact,
I keep getting sent to FTP even after choosing "HTTP mirrors
          only".)
-- not have other pages in the
          way (eg. "choose your mirror")

If you can get a direct  link to one of these plugins on a
particular HTTP mirror, then it should be possible to install
into Orion straight off the mirror.

We are preparing for the release
of Babel Language Packs R0.11.0. Babel is now producing language
pack plugins for Orion. I'm thinking about the mirroring of the
        Babel Orion Language Packs.

      If I specify the following
(non-mirror) URLs, Orion installs the language pack plugins
        fine:
      http://download.eclipse.org/technology/babel/orion_language_packs/RC2/kepler/BabelLanguagePack-eclipse.orion-fr/babelEditorFrenchPlugin.html
      http://download.eclipse.org/technology/babel/orion_language_packs/RC2/kepler/BabelLanguagePack-eclipse.orion-fr/babelGitFrenchPlugin.html
      http://download.eclipse.org/technology/babel/orion_language_packs/RC2/kepler/BabelLanguagePack-eclipse.orion-fr/babelUiFrenchPlugin.html
      http://download.eclipse.org/technology/babel/orion_language_packs/RC2/kepler/BabelLanguagePack-eclipse.orion-fr/babelUsersFrenchPlugin.html

      However, if I specify the
following URLs in mirror format, I receive a message: "Plugin
        handshake timeout for: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/technology/babel/...":
      http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/technology/babel/orion_language_packs/RC2/kepler/BabelLanguagePack-eclipse.orion-fr/babelEditorFrenchPlugin.html
      http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/technology/babel/orion_language_packs/RC2/kepler/BabelLanguagePack-eclipse.orion-fr/babelGitFrenchPlugin.html
      http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/technology/babel/orion_language_packs/RC2/kepler/BabelLanguagePack-eclipse.orion-fr/babelUiFrenchPlugin.html
      http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/technology/babel/orion_language_packs/RC2/kepler/BabelLanguagePack-eclipse.orion-fr/babelUsersFrenchPlugin.html

      Ken, is there a technically
reason why Orion cannot support mirror URLs for plugin
installation? Or, is it a bug that can be fixed?

Denis, can you think of any
solution to that on the Babel side?
