RE: [wtp-releng] Smoke Test Request for WTP 3.2.0 I-build
|
I voted to promote with a warning- "need to have a deployment descriptor in order to deploy web services, this is now turned off by default" (thanks Shane).

Based on this, I should not promote the I-build, right?. Is that the intent? Is a fix forthcoming? If not, that means there will be no declared build this week.
Fine by me .... it is up to you committers and project leads ... but I thought best to be explicit.
Put another way, this is a reminder that the check-marks and red-x's on the smoke-test page are to reflect a "vote" whether to promote, or not. Not so much whether everything is ok or not. We sometimes have a green checkmark, with an annotation that says "here's a serious problem with this specific function" (and list bug number).
An alternative is to promote with a "warning" this specific function is broken (I'm assuming its just the one specific function?)
This is sometimes useful as it provides a new target to develop against ... even if it is not suitable for use by end-users ... but, again, it is up to you projects and you must decide if a problem is so serious it should not be promoted, even for use as a development target.
There are two other smoke tests which are "incomplete" ... one for xsd, and one for xsl. Good excuse for another reminder ... if its known that a team can not smoke test one week, and the project lead agrees there's no need to (say, since no changes took place) then that's fine, but the smoke test page should still be annotated with check-mark (vote to promote) with a comment made that no smoke test was done but was deemed not necessary. This just makes everything expliicit, so everyone knows what's up.
Also, there was a subsequent build, triggered by a jsdt commit, annotated as
"
JSDT Debug I-build submission for March 25, 2010".
If this was to fix a blocking problem, that's fine, but, remember, such bugs should have a specific bug
open and a note here to wtp-releng saying that a rebuild is required .... so everyone knows what's up.
Otherwise, if no blocking bug, please do not commit code on "no-code Thursdays" (which is nearly
every Thursday).
I know this week is a bit disorganized, due to EclipseCon and, I'm sure, other reasons ... and appreciate the effort to continue our weekly rhythm.
Thank you,

I won't be able to smoke test the JAX-WS Tools component by 2PM Eastern.
It'll be an hour or two after that before i can finish the smoke testing.
Thanks,
