As agreed during 2005-12-22 status call, I've opened new enh request
122720 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=122720) where I
explain what changes I believe are necessary to provide permanent
solution to this problem. WTP performance has been big problem for our
team and I hope this will help make things better for 1.5 and future
releases.

As many of you have discovered or heard from other's complaints, there
was a significant performance problem in the publish to server found in
the virtual API layer. Unfortunately, this was discovered too late in
the game to be included in WTP 1.0. The problem grew exponentially as
projects got larger. We have now added some large projects to our
tests. Also, with an abundance of much appreciated help from Igor
Fedorenko, we were able to nail down exactly where the misbehaving code
was and to propose corresponding patches. These patches have now been
functional and performance tested with a dramatic improvement in
performance. We will release these for the 1.0.1 driver today, or the
first available 1.0.1 driver that completes.
It is in instances such as this where we really see the power of the
open source programming model working as designed. Thanks again, Igor.
