RE: [vtp-dev] Voice Tools Project feature wishlist

I mainly have 2 comments,

First, if the is targeted at "IRV" folks, I would think that we would want to move in a direction that
abstracts VXML, CCXML and GRXML.  Allow application builders to deal in the logical and not the specifics of a particular
xml language.   I posted a comment to this effect some time ago on the eclipse.technology.voicetools news group.
Debugging VXML is awful and painful.

Second, at present the existing tools are independent plugins (that is my understanding).  It seems that there is a need for a "project" concept for the tools to fit into to allow the tools to integrate and work together.  If I were writing ccxml and I wanted to invoke a vxml dialog you would be nice if there was a pre-populated list of available dialogs and etc.  Not a great example but illustrates the point.
As you abstract from the markup this becomes more necessary.   Some tools will likely be adjunct views that will be opened
when needed in a particular perspective, though it seems other views, especially ones use in creating an application
would best be grouped into a perspective that worked on a project with a particular nature.

Subject: [vtp-dev] Voice Tools Project feature wishlist

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to everyone who participated in our call this morning. I hope it gave everyone a clearer perspective on what the state of the project is and where it needs your help. For those who were unable to make it I took some notes and will post them to the Voice Tools Project newsgroup (news://news.eclipse.org/eclipse.technology.voicetools) in the next day or so.

Per our discussion earlier today here is a simple spreadsheet of proposed features that could be put into an initial release's project plan for the Voice Tools Project. I kept my contributions to the list relatively modest to leave a lot of room for fresh perspectives. Add any additional function you believe should be in an initial release and a column identifying you with X's for which functions you would like to see prioritized. When you've made your changes just post it back to the list. I would strongly encourage you to think from both the perspective of users using the tools and companies extending the tools for their own products when considering what you would like to see.
