Re: [udig-devel] Groovy scripting in uDig
|
Hi Guys,
Related to this is my own interest in writing a Ruby plugin for uDIG. I took note of the fact that there was a groovy plugin listed a while back, and so this current discussion is very interesting to me. I have been planning to use the groovy plugin as a template for a Ruby (or rather JRuby) plugin. Unfortunately due to other commitments, I am no-where near getting started on this. I am hoping, however, to get round to it within the next two months, and in that case would love to discuss it with whomever is closest to the Groovy plugin at that time, Dan or Jesse I presume.
Cheers, Craig

Hi Dan,
For now it will be mostly just stripping out the code that doesn't compile. Then making a simpler API to code against. For example I was starting to make facades for accessing the current map and doing all the most common tasks, building filters, zooming the map and so on.

The rephrase is accepted. I've dug through the uDig portion of the
Geotools svn and found Jesse's source code for the Groovy plugin. It
will take awhile for me to get up to speed (hopefully not measured in
geological time), but I'll give it a shot.

OK, off the table for now. I'll start to lobby again in a few months.

Lets rephrase that - start to volunteer now! And lobby to include it in
uDig when you are happy with the result. If Jesses can point you towards
the code there is nothing stopping you from hacking it into shape right
away.
