Re: [udig-devel] SampleProject.udig overwritten on opening

Thanks James,
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOT-104 reccomends integrating GPSSylon
which to my mind is quite a comprehensive piece of software focusing mainly
on realtime acquisition and plotting of position. My application calls for
downloading of waypoints for mapping purposes. However I've followed the
code through and it should be possible to extract the salient sections,
although I'm not sure that the exercise will be all that easy for me. I am
heartened by the discovery that Garmin have made the protocols available on
their website though.
Cheers
Tony

While I think I get the broad concepts , could someone advise me whether
it will be possible to download/upload data from/to my Garmin etrex in

Tony,
GPS handling really seems to be a weak point in OSS spatial applications
right now. I do not know why, but I would be willing to hazard a guess
that not enough OSS developers own GPS units!
Too true.
However, for some hope see some notes on adding a GPS DataStore
implementaiton to GeoTools at:
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOT-104
Should not be too hard to do, especially for someone with a GPS to test
against!
