Hi,

It's ok for the metadata file to be text, as long as it starts with /* CTF 1.8 */, which yours does. My eyes don't see anything wrong with it. Do you have any more specific error? If you look in the Error Log view (Window -> show view -> Error Log), you may have a complete error message about what it does not recognize in the file.

Does babeltrace read your trace? If so, the problem is really with Trace Compass. Please open a bug [1] and attach a trace so we can test and fix it. If babeltrace does not read the trace, then it's your metadata file that has the problem. You can ask support on the lttng irc channel or mailing list, maybe someone more familiar with barectf can spot the problem. Or ask on tracecompass, some people are on both channels ;-) Both ways, providing a detailed error message or the complete trace (as small as possible and without sensitive data) will help us help you.

Hi all,

I met a problem when trying to open a CTF trace in Trace Compass. The app didn't recognize the metadata file.
I followed the steps in https://github.com/efficios/barectf/wiki/Writing-the-YAML-configuration-file to generate a metadata file with the sample YAML file. And the metadata file can't be recognized in Trace Compass.

barectf config.yaml --> generate metadata file

I compared the metadata file generated by barectf with the metadata files in sample traces(https://github.com/tuxology/tracevizlab/blob/master/labs/TraceCompassTutorialTraces.tgz). Seems the format of the two metadata file are different. The generated metadata file is a text file, while the one in sample trace is binary. I attached these two metadata files.

Do you know what is the difference between them, how could I generate a metadata file which can be recognized by Trace Compass.

Thanks.
