I agree with your assessment Gunnar.
We discussed this in the AC.
I think that the best solution is for me to run regular new
committer sessions to provide education in our processes.
The handbook was, I believe, an important step in the right
direction. A concise checklist is a good next step to consider as
well [1]

Maybe mentors need a checklist of

I'm afraid this will lower the number of people
volunteering as mentors even further.
