STEM Community Call January 8, 2015

1. STEM 2.0.2 up

  • Defer release scheduled for January 9, 2015 to January 30, 2015: Passed, w/o objection

o   Will allow to address discussion item #4

o   Will include new feature request to allow modeler to log automated experiments

  • Integration builds will continue to appear every Friday

2. Updates on dengue modeling: Defer until Kun is on the call

·         Working with Kamesh, IBM India, on Singapore project

3. Updates on Ebola modeling

·         Jamie: Have seen work University of Melbourne did using STEM

o   For Australian government on importation of Ebola into Europe

o   Is confidential

·         Kun’s paper on Ebola work accepted for presentation at SBP 2015 in March

4. Discussion of Java 8 compatibility/support and Eclipse Luna

·         Jamie: Discovered while helping load STEM on a new Mac

o   Jamie: Can’t test on his work Mac w/o losing Matlab license

o   Stefan: Will test on his new Mac at home

·         Jamie: Should we move from Java 6 to Java 7 as minimum for STEM? Now 2 generations behind

o    Approved w/o objection

·         Matthias: Had problem loading STEM on Window 7 notebook; is it possible to bundle w/ Java?

o   Jamie: Check Java version running, get stack trace

o   Matthias: Will try again, report to Jamie

o   Jamie:  A compatibility issue (not a bug), will consider bundlingi

5. Feature Request Updates

  • Restricting air travel for certain compartments
    • Nereyda: Still in switch over in disease being modeled; having trouble w/ documentation, YouTube
    • Jamie: Documentation out of date
    • Resolution: Have private phone call to work out with Nereyda who will then update doc
  • New plug in to measure poverty
    • Jamie: Using lights (from satellites) doesn’t work
  • Plug in for roads in Africa: no update
  • Three  new requests to allow modeler to: prioritizing second item 
    • Have batch to control sequencer
    • Log automated experiments: Make part of new build for January 30
    • Modify sequencer to get automatic experiments to run batch

6.  Items from BfR

  • Matthias: Any publications/conference presentations on use of STEM in Ebola effort?
    • Jamie:  Several from IBM, one by Alex (Operon)
    • TO DO: Judy will update on wiki for move to home page
  • Matthias: Any specific instructions on how to cite STEM?
    • TO DO: Jamie will prepare, post statement on how to cite STEM if you use it
