Mark,

Not to be overly rude, but maybe you should calm down a little.

Where do we *trash* /usr/local/bin?

It's trashed in build-stell.xml (formerly build-core.xml).
See the code related to the inst.bin variable.
This code comes from a script originally written in July 2002,
by _you_, and subsequently modified by Dave. I first laid hands
on it in January 2003.

Blowing away /usr/local/bin _only occurs when the clean-install
Ant target is used, so maybe you/we were just lucky.

Not just lucky - when I wrote the script, I put in the "main" target that
print out the targets that should be used from the command line. I
don't know when that target was added, but it shouldn't be there,
and it should never have been used. I've certainly not used anything
from build-stell that isn't in the message printed by running ant
with no target.

Of course, thanks to He Who Shall Not Be Named, we have tons
of shit like this pervading our code base. It sometimes seems like
we'll never get rid of it all. I could just shoot myself for trusting him,
and not scrutinizing what he did more carefully early enough to prevent
this crap.

Sorry for blaming you.
