Hi Jonathan (and everyone) -

Just got back from vacation (about 30 minutes ago).

I made the switch from Word ''97 and Acrobat to Latex and related
tools last year.  It's fairly nice (for straight technical papers) once
you've got the basics, especially if you have a Latex guru handy.
Getting figures right can be tedious (but the same is true in Word, plus
complex Word layouts have a tendency to shift unexpectedly (i.e. when
changing your printer, or just Word feels grouchy....))

I run Latex on Win2000 under CygWin, but I think there's a straight Windows
port available as well.

I'll be glad to help (or commiserate) from a Word-to-basic-Latex-user
viewpoint - whatever seems appropriate!

I presume that there are books available that cover Latex and Tex?
I guess I am just used to having the computer do the grunt work :-)
