Rodolfo,

I beg to differ -- the credit is all yours.

You produced your port in early September. When I tried to reproduce
your work back then, I ran into some connectivity issues, which I
falsely attributed to Firebird installation problems. When I tried
again a few days ago using a stock RedHat 7.3 all your code worked
fine, and I now realize that September's problems were in fact due to
the local configuration of the Research Linux variant, something I
missed then due to my ignorance.

Also, when I first started work on Firebird a few days ago, I went to
their website to learn how to install on Linux, and couldn't find a
clear set of instructions. Then I reviewed my old e-mail and came
across your note, followed your instructions, and Firebird was up and
running!

All I have done is to revise the documentation to reflect our current
conventions, and to adjust the Ant install/build/test scripts to deal
with multiple database managers.

I feel bad about this because the delay in making Firebird available
as a supported platform is my fault, and only now is it clear just
how good a job you did.

Your work is really helpful, as we can now support two database managers,
and Firebird will most likely be the first manager we support for Windows.

By the way, have you tried the Firebird 1.5 alpha version? This
presumably has lots of bug fixes, but also has a different file
layout. It might be nice to add it to our list of supported database
managers.

thanks,
dave
