We're delighted to find interested people! We've been working towards
this point for a very long time, and it's good too see interest now that
we're finally getting it out!

The technology page unveiling was a bit of a surprise to us. Due
to the Canada Day/July 4th holidays, communications were a bit
spotty, and we didn't think the page was going to go up until next
monday.

I'm working on setting things up for download as we speak. Things
should probably be working for CVS checkout of the system by later
tonight. I'll send mail to the list as soon as it's ready.

I'm not sure what document you're looking at... but that date is likely an
error. I started the project about 2 years ago. I went through a couple
of prototypes before starting on the current code base. We really hit
what we call the CVS functionality level around November 2001.

We've been starting to use the system internally just recently (with
a false start or two). The system as it stands is pretty usable, but
the access controls are very weak: either you can access the repository
with full priviledges, or you can't access it at all. For a private server
with a smallish group, it should be runnable today.

We're currently running CVS on Eclipse for two reasons. The first
is the privs limitation: we need to finish the priviledge support before
we can really run it as a public server. The second is administrative:
we need to work out the mechanics of running a Stellation server
on the Eclipse site. To do that, we need enough privs on the server
to be able to do things like install new versions of the system, restart
servers when there's a problem, etc.

We'll be doing some shadowing for a while: we'll be running Stellation
ourselves, and pushing our changes into CVS every morning. Once
we finish the ACL support, and we feel sure that it's stable, we'll start
working with the Eclipse people to run a Stellation server on Eclipse.

I'll post more as soon as I've got the code set up on CVS.
