[sparkplug-dev] Upcoming Sparkplug Specification Meeting Tuesday, Nov 3 2020
|
All,
In preparation for our meeting on Tuesday, Nov 3rd, I've taken the
work done by Dominik Obermaier and expanded on it. Taking some of
the advice provided Ivar Grimstad, I've created stubbed out .adoc
files for each of the chapters in the new table of contents. These
files (per
https://github.com/eclipse/sparkplug/pull/30) are now:
specification/Sparkplug_0_TOC.adoc
specification/Sparkplug_1_Introduction.adoc
specification/Sparkplug_2_Principles.adoc
specification/Sparkplug_3_Components.adoc
specification/Sparkplug_4_Topics.adoc
specification/Sparkplug_5_Messages.adoc
specification/Sparkplug_6_Message_Flow.adoc
specification/Sparkplug_7_Data.adoc
specification/Sparkplug_8_Security.adoc
specification/Sparkplug_9_HA.adoc
specification/Sparkplug_10_Acknowledgements.adoc
specification/Sparkplug_11_Appendix.adoc
I also took the opportunity to add the required legal notices/files
per Eclipse rules in
https://github.com/eclipse/sparkplug/issues/8.
Many of these chapters more or less align with those in the original
specification. So, I would like to propose that we each pick up at
least one of these new issues corresponding to the work of moving
the information from the old specification into the newly created
documents. Some of the new chapters/sections don't correspond
exactly to old portions of the specification. I would recommend
reviewing the old specification and the new chapters and closing one
that you think you can tackle - or at least most of it. Once you
select one, assign it to yourself in Github so nobody else picks it
up and duplicates work.

We'll keep communication open on the Slack technical channel to
address questions as they come up for all of this work.
For doing this work, I would highly suggest using the Eclipse IDE
(
https://www.eclipse.org/ide/) and the Asciidoctor editor/plugin for
Eclipse:
(
https://marketplace.eclipse.org/content/asciidoctor-editor). This
provides a good environment in which to work with .adoc files. There
are also a number of Asciidoc reference guides on the internet
including this one:
https://asciidoctor.org/docs/asciidoc-syntax-quick-reference/.
In addition to doing this specification work, I would also like to
pick one normative statement to create an 'entire flow' from the
specification, to the annotation, to the 'test' that covers it in
the TCK. By creating an end-to-end flow we should be able to use the
same pattern for all of the TCK development. I'd like to make sure
we all understand this model so we can incorporate it as we go
along.
Talk to you Tuesday!
Regards,
Wes
